Cuba and Djibouti agree to maintain health cooperation

The ministers of Public Health of Cuba, Jose Angel Portal, and Djibouti, Mohamed Warsama Dirieh, reaffirmed in Havana their commitment to maintain cooperation ties in that sector.

According to the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Warsama Dirieh and Jose Angel Portal met this week in the context of the official visit made by the Djiboutian official to the island.

Since 2002, hundreds of Cubans have worked in Djibouti, a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordering Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia, with a population of less than one million inhabitants and an economy mainly dedicated to port activity.

From that date until today, 110 young Djiboutians have graduated from Cuban universities, 63 of them as doctors, and currently work in that country; 88 medical specialists; six high-level trainers, and several professionals from Cuban agriculture and water resources sector, the Cuban News Agency reported.

For 22 years Cuba and Djibouti have maintained diplomatic relations based on respect, cooperation and friendship.
