Somalia: The Decline Of Poem’’

SOMALIA is country located at the edge of horn of Africa, a country with over 10 billion citizens the country excises the transitional constitution. The colonial powers divided the Somalis into five parts the Djibouti, the northern, the southern, the NFD, and the western Somalis. Both the southern and northern Somalis get their independence in 1960 from Britain and Italy, later Djibouti get their independence 1977 from French.

Throughout the history the Somalis were people that had god given culture rich of poem. Poem was essential in their life if it’s by expressing the benefits and greatness of their culture, by telling stories, by flirting with the ladies& the entire relationships process, by promoting their seniority, by threatening their enemies, and the other aspects of life.

During the beginning of the last quarter of the 20th century the Somalia government led by general mohamedsiad barre invested on improving the Somali culture by writing the Somali language for the very first time in 1972 and also the national theater which enhanced the Somali poems.

the poets was essential way of expressing ideas, feelings, encouraging, discouraging, and many others, but from the end of the last century civil war breakout the central government was overthrown uncountable number of people were killed, many lost their families & loved ones, many suffering severe injuries and mental problems and its yet to be recovered after 27 years and the country has taken federal system which the central is struggling to get power to implement the state governments.

Thepoem also suffered and gets declined without the support of the Somali community. It’s clear that the younger generations are not giving attention on the poem and they will tell that they don’t understand poem and it’s for the x generation and before.

Conclusion

The poem was at the top when it comes communication and messages loved by many and get knowledge from the poem; entertain on it but now with this era it seems that poems are no longer interesting and not people get excited on it as it was used to be.

Lack of support from the population and the quality of the poets going down is another reason for the decline of poetry. Remember the country was nicknamed the “A nation of poets” but it’s not will not stay like unless we work on it
