South Sudan conflict high on agenda as regional leaders convenes in Addis Ababa

The ongoing South Sudan conflict is dominating the IGAD summit of the heads of states and government which is meant to try to solve most sensitive issues in the region.

South Sudan’s ongoing civil war Eritrea and Eritrea-Djibouti issues are the main subject for the high-level meeting.

President Salva Kiir, opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar are both in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa waiting for the out come of the IGAD summit which is also expected to address some pending issues on the peace process.

South Sudan government and opposition groups including the SPLM-IO led by the former First Vice President signed a peace agreement in Khartoum last month and is due to conclude today.
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed, who is current chairperson of the IGAD, will chair the meeting, that will take place today.
